This smoothie makes for a nourishing pick-me-up any time of day. Ingredients such as cacao, chia seeds, frozen cauliflower (for creaminess!), coconut, and your favorite protein powder provide plenty of micronutrients + fiber to energize and nourish your body and mind. While we are also adding brewed COFFEE to this smoothie, you do you – decaf or regular will do the trick! Even a couple shots of espresso if you’re feeling fancy!
What’s in this mocha almond joy smoothie?
Glad you asked! Some of the ingredient highlights include:
Frozen riced cauliflower: A whole heaping cup and a half of frozen riced cauliflower! We are talking roughly 75% of your daily value of vitamin C in addition to other micronutrients like vitamin B6, vitamin K, and folate. I buy the organic frozen riced cauliflower from Costco.
Dates: A couple of dates for some natural sweetness! Dates are such an amazing snack or add to smoothies. A wonderful source of fiber, potassium, and B6!
Chia seeds: Another easy nutritional add to smoothies, 1 tbsp of chia seeds provides an extra boost of vitamins + minerals + antioxidants. And more fiber!
Cacao powder: More antioxidants as well as iron and magnesium. Try to choose one with a strong nutritional profile such as this organic brand.
Shredded (or flaked) coconut: A great source of healthy fat, essential for energy, skin, hair, and hormones! We are using the unsweetened variety in this recipe.
Coffee: Coffee consumed in moderation can certainly be part of a well-rounded diet. Regular or decaf depending on your preferences!
Ways to include coffee in your mocha almond joy smoothie:
–> Brew some extra coffee in the morning or evening, then let cool in the refrigerator. Add to the smoothie per the instructions below!
–> Use some homemade or store-bought cold brew!
–> If you have an espresso machine, directly add a couple shots of espresso!
Expert smoothie tips for a thick + creamy + delicious smoothie!
–> Use frozen riced cauliflower to keep your smoothie nice and cold/creamy.
–> Error on the side of caution when adding liquid! While the ingredient amounts listed below should do the trick, you can always add more liquid if needed. We don’t want our smoothies overly soupy!
–> Want more flavor or excitement? Consider adding some dark chocolate, almond butter, or coconut milk (in place of the almond milk). Or dare I suggest chopping up some actual Almond Joy bits for blending or topping??
