The Best Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie

This creamy, delectable chocolate strawberry smoothie will be sure to satisfy your tastebuds! Sweetened with dates and a touch of dark chocolate, this smoothie is a tasty and nutritious option for anytime of day! 

A few weeks ago when I got my wisdom teeth out I knew I needed to add some some excitement to my smoothie game in order to not bore my tastebuds to death for a few days. When I was getting tired of the same old couple of smoothies, this heavenly chocolate strawberry smoothie was born. Who knew such goodness could come out of seemingly senseless but necessary wisdom teeth removal??? Praise to the unique situation of my oral surgery and power of my Vitamix for bringing this smoothie to life.

I most prefer to enjoy this smoothie at breakfast, but anytime of day will do! Is there ever an incorrect time to enjoy the excellent combination of chocolate and strawberry?

Sometimes we may tell ourselves certain narratives surrounding breakfast and what it “should” look like. For example, we might tell ourselves that it isn’t ever okay or “healthy” to have chocolate or another sweet at breakfast, and that we did something “wrong” if we choose to do so. I like to look at our eating choices on a larger scale rather than criticizing and obsessing over individual meal or snack choices. What’s more, when we seek satisfaction at the center of our food choices, nutrition tends to fall into place!

Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Yields: 1 scrumptious smoothie

Ingredients:
1/2 ripe avocado
1 cup frozen strawberries
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (such as this brand)
2 pitted dates
1 1/2 tbsp cacao powder
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 square dark chocolate
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any milk of choice)

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender. Blend until creamy and smooth. Adjust almond milk as necessary to achieve desired consistency.
  2. Top with any of your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Notes:

  • Depending on the size of your dark chocolate squares, feel free to add several according to your preferred taste! I use the 72% organic dark chocolate bars found at Trader Joe’s.
