This deliciously creamy blueberry cacao breakfast smoothie is sure to keep you feeling satisfied and energized for hours. Customize with your favorite add-ins and toppings!

Hello and happy Tuesday! Anyone else feeling tired of the abnormally hot weather for spring? Thankfully I have the perfect smoothie to the rescue. If I want to make a smoothie in the morning or even afternoon, this is my go-to smoothie of choice. I usually have all of the ingredients on hand, it is full of nutrition, and it tastes delicious! What more could one want in a smoothie? On to the details!

Blueberry Cacao Breakfast Smoothie

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Yields: 1 serving

Ingredients:
10 ounces almond milk (or other milk of choice)
1 tbsp almond butter
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp cacao powder (I love this brand)
2-4 dates (depending on desired level of sweetness)
1/2 avocado
1 cup frozen blueberries
Optional (but encouraged): handful of spinach, vanilla or chocolate protein powder (I love this brand)

Topping ideas: Fresh fruit, granola or cereal, shredded coconut, extra chia seeds, chocolate chips – let your imagination go wild!

Directions:

  1. Add 10 ounces of almond milk to your blender. (I have a Vitamix, which I LOVE, but any blender should do the trick).
  2. Next, add the almond butter, chia seeds, cacao powder, dates, and avocado, followed last by the frozen blueberries.
  3. Start the blender on low, gradually increasing the speed. Blend on high until creamy, then turn down the speed again to low, and then turn the blender off.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness or blending as necessary. Pour into a glass or bowl, top with desired toppings, and enjoy!

Notes:

  • I find that blending smoothies works best when the milk is added to the blender first and the frozen fruit is added to the blender last. Results will be best with frozen fruit as opposed to fresh.
  • If you don’t have a ripe avocado on hand, you could sub a banana or even some Greek yogurt!
