Eating Disorder Dietitian Specializing in a Compassionate Approach to Eating Disorder & Disordered Eating Recovery

Helping clients (adults) with eating disorders / disordered eating experience lasting healing and freedom with food, exercise, and body image.

Virtual Nutrition Counseling | MI, ID, TX, AZ, CO

Libby is currently accepting new clients located anywhere in Michigan, Idaho, Texas, Arizona or Colorado.

What if you could…

  • Regularly eat foods you both enjoy and feel good eating – without feeling out-of-control or overly restrictive

  • Nourish your body without overanalyzing everything you eat

  • Feel calm and centered around food
  • Enjoy exercise rather than experiencing it as a tool for punishment or manipulation
  • Find and care for your body’s natural healthy size/weight range by engaging in life-giving, healthy behaviors — (rather than fixating on weight, an outcome we cannot directly control)

How I can help:

In our sessions, we will work to address both your overall nutritional health and the thoughts/feelings perpetuating any disordered eating.

Addressing what is DRIVING your eating behaviors (i.e., considering the thoughts/feelings behind the way you are engaging in food) is essential to the freedom and healing you are desiring.

My approach to nutrition counseling is not a quick-fix, one-size-fits all approach! We will pursue sustainable, life-giving behavior change that lasts. I see each client as the expert on herself / what might work for her, and see myself as the nutrition & food relationship expert here to support you in feeling your best.

  • I work with you to develop your own goals + vision for healthy/normal eating and I provide support in progressing towards these goals over time.

  • I provide assistance with meal and snack ideas. I can also provide more detailed support in meal planning as needed (before working towards a more intuitive eating approach).

  • I provide an encouraging and trusting space to work through disordered eating thoughts and behaviors.

  • We discuss topics that are relevant to you — this could be body image, beliefs about weight, hunger + fullness, feared or “off-limits” foods, increasing satisfaction in eating, how metabolism and the digestive system work, relationship to exercise, emotional eating, overly restrictive or chaotic eating, and more!

  • I assess your lab values and help you restore any nutrient imbalances.

  • I give guidance on regulating/restoring irregular or missing periods, without using hormonal birth control as a “band-aid” solution.

  • I coordinate and work with other members of your treatment team, if applicable.

My nutrition counseling style is great for clients who are…
.

  • Tired of cookie cutter “solutions” they have received from other dietitians/healthcare practitioners. I recognize that each client is unique and responds differently, and will utilize a variety of creative strategies on our journey towards freedom & healing.
  • Interested in working through the thoughts/feelings behind behavior change…not just being handed a meal plan they are suddenly expected to magically follow. My approach — getting to what is DRIVING the disordered eating — leads to long-lasting change and healing.
  • Feeling like they have “tried eating disorder recovery before” and are discouraged that nothing has worked so far.
  • Seeking empathy from someone who has been in similar shoes! I know firsthand what it’s like to recover from an all-consuming eating disorder, and understand that lasting change takes time and the safety of a trusting relationship

My counseling style is what I call an “emotionally and psychologically-attuned approach to nutrition therapy.” We will do more than talk about just the “nutrition practicals” like meal planning (when needed) and snack ideas… To experience freedom and true recovery, we will journey together to uncover and heal the emotional/psychological barriers, fears, and beliefs that are currently affecting how you are engaging with food and/or exercise. I take a very client-centered approach, journeying alongside you at whatever pace feels comfortable.

How to Begin:

I offer one-on-one virtual nutrition counseling services for individuals (ages 18+) living in Michigan, Idaho, Texas, Arizona, or Colorado.

Contact Libby to schedule a free 15-minute consultation call to decide together if my services will be a good fit for you. After (or during) our phone call, we will schedule your first appointment and I will email you any required paperwork prior to beginning our sessions together.

My Services:

Initial Session:

During your initial 60-minute session, we will explore your overall health/nutritional status as well as your past and current relationship with food, exercise, and body image. Getting to know you more is invaluable to me as we begin thinking through individualized strategies to facilitate greater healing, well-being, and freedom.

Cost of Initial Session: $155

Follow-Up Sessions:

In each follow-up session, we will discuss how you are feeling (physically, mentally, and emotionally) as it pertains to nutrition and your relationship with food, exercise, and your body. We will discuss “nutrition practicals” as well as your specific psychological and emotional dynamics regarding food. As I get to know you more, I adapt my approaches each week, using my creativity, clinical experience, knowledge, and intuition to support you. With time and trust, we CAN get to where you are living your life free from chaos and obsession with food!

Cost of 45-Minute Follow-Up Sessions: $110

Frequently Asked Questions:

Many/most people don’t meet diagnostic criteria for an eating disorder, but may still struggle with any degree of a disordered relationship with food. If anything feels off or distressing to you regarding food, exercise, or your body, you would likely benefit from nutrition counseling. In our sessions, we will consider both how to improve your overall health using life-giving, sustainable behavior changes, as well as how to address the underlying thoughts/emotions that perpetuate any disordered eating behaviors.

I generally start out by seeing clients on a weekly or biweekly basis. Nutrition counseling can be shorter term (at least 6-12 months) or longer term. As health status and/or disordered eating improves over time, we may decide to continue with a weekly or biweekly frequency, or we may reduce frequency to ~once a month. Many clients choose to continue sessions well into their recovery/healing journey for continued support and maintenance of a therapeutic relationship.

All sessions are held virtually using Zoom’s HIPAA-compliant platform. Most clients do not find this to be an issue and actually prefer the flexibility/ease that virtual sessions offer. In certain situations, such as with weight restoration in the context of anorexia nervosa, there are a number of creative strategies we can use for weight monitoring (such as blind weights taken via a family member who can then send the data to me). If this applies to you, it is something we can process and strategize about in our sessions.

I am a private-pay dietitian. This allows me to provide the best, most personalized service that I can for each client. Michigan insurance companies do not accept dietitians in-network, so I am unable to bill your insurance company directly. However,  I am happy to provide you with a superbill (receipt) for each appointment that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement depending on your specific insurance plan coverage.

A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel OR to reschedule your appointment without being charged the full session price. No shows are also charged the full price of the session. I appreciate your consideration of both my time and the time of my other clients.
